Offensive Explosion Lifts Hatters to ASUN Tourney Win

DeLAND—Stetson's Sarah Collins scored a pair of goals and set two school records but it was a flurry of second-half goals which propelled the Hatters to a 5-2 win over North Florida in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament quarterfinals, Saturday at the Athletic Training Center.

The third-seeded Hatters (9-6-2) now advance to next weekend's semifinals for the second straight season where they will face second seed Lipscomb, 4 p.m., Friday at FGCU in Fort Myers. Sixth-seeded UNF closes its season with a 6-9-2 record.

By scoring twice, Collins set school season records for goals (13) and points (32) as Stetson won a home ASUN Tournament match for the first time since 2009.

After two Collins goals gave Stetson a 2-1 lead at halftime, Stetson opened the second half with a goal by Brianna Camargo just 11 seconds into the half. Assisting Camargo was her twin sister, Abbie, as Stetson grabbed a 3-1 lead.

UNF's Alexis Bredeau trimmed Stetson's lead to 3-2 with a goal in the 48th minute, but the Hatters struck for a pair of goals in a three minute time span to put the game away.

Lily Ammon, who had entered the game moments before, scored from just inside the left side of the goal box in the 66th minute to make it a 4-2 Stetson lead. Riana Metzger and Brianna Camargo assisted on the play.

Hailey Williams put the game out of reach when she scored three minutes later as Metzger fed her down the middle for an easy score as the Hatters made it 5-2.

Collins gave Stetson a 2-0 lead early in the game by scoring twice in the first 18 minutes. Her first goal came in the 11th minute when she got loose down the right sideline and put a shot past UNF keeper Victoria Ekeli for a goal. Lindsey Parent and Florencia Baldassini assisted.

Her second goal came in the 18th minute when she broke free down the middle of the field, dribbled around a defender and scored on an empty goal as Ekeli's efforts to cut Collins off were fruitless. Baldassini assisted the second goal as well.

The Hatters dominated play for most of the 90 minutes, out-shooting UNF, 22-12. Stetson also took a season-high 11 corner kicks.

Stetson keeper Emily Plotz made four saves as she improved to 8-1-1 on the season. Ospreys' keeper Victoria Ekeli made nine saves, including several of the spectacular variety.
