Hatters Fall to Tennessee State in Hatter Classic Championship

Brianti Saunders Earns All-Classic Honors

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson let an eight-point, fourth quarter lead slip away as Tennessee State captured the 2016 Hatter Classic title with a 56-50 victory Tuesday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (11-3) shot just 26 percent from the floor in suffering their first home loss of the season.

Senior Brianti Saunders scored 16 points and was named to the Hatter Classic all-tournament team.

Stetson led 45-37 after three quarters, but the Tigers (5-5) outscored the Hatters 19-5 in the final 10 minutes to earn the victory.

"I just think they outplayed us (in the fourth quarter)," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "They started hitting the glass pretty hard, they got 20 points off of rebounds, and we just had too many really good players not play well.  Bri played well, but we need more than one player to show up, and that didn't happen."

Breana Bey collected her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sarah Sagerer grabbed 10 boards and blocked three shots.

Tournament MVP Olivia Jones scored 17 points for Tennessee State.

The Hatters will return to action on December 30 at USF.

Notes: The loss snapped Stetson's nine-game home court win streak ... The Hatters 50 points was a season-low.

Hatter Classic All-Tournament Team:
MVP - Olivia Jones (TSU), I'mani Davis (TSU), Brianti Saunders (STET), Kailyn Williams (BCU), Donshel Beck (SIUE)
