Hatters Reach Semifinals at ITA Regional

Colter DeCoste and Linus Bergevi won two more doubles matches on Sunday at the ITA Regional, only to be derailed by injury.

The duo of sophomore DeCoste and freshman Bergevi advanced to Monday's semifinal round of the prestigious tournament, but were forced to withdraw from the event as a precaution after DeCoste suffered a minor injury. Despite the disappointing end to the tournament, Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet was thrilled with the play of his young duo.

"We saw two good performances today by this young pair," Noblet said. "They fed positive energy into one another and showed confidence in the tight moments. This shows we are heading in the right direction, and we should use it as a spring board to work even harder and keep developing. It is too bad they will not be able to defend their chances tomorrow, but they are already looking forward to their next chance to compete together."

Bergevi and DeCoste opened play Sunday with an 8-7 (8) win over a pair from Florida, and followed that up with an 8-6 victory over a duo from FAU.

In all, Bergevi and DeCoste went 4-0 at the ITA Regional, with wins over tandems from Miami, North Florida, Florida and FAU.
