Gookins Resigns as Men's Soccer Coach

Stetson men's soccer head coach Kyle Gookins has resigned his position due to personal reasons. The resignation is effective immediately.

"I would like to thank the players and my staff for their hard work and dedication," Gookins said. "I am really proud of what we were able to accomplish this year, including developing a strong culture in this team.

"I would also like to thank Athletic Director Jeff Altier, Deputy Athletic Director Alicia Queally, and the rest of the administration for their continued support of Stetson Soccer.  This was a tough decision, but it's what is best for me and my family at this time."

Gookins, the 2017 ASUN Conference Coach of the Year, led Stetson to its first regular-season championship since 2006 in his first season with the Hatters.

"While this is an unexpected announcement, we remain committed to the Stetson Men's Soccer program," Deputy Director of Athletics Alicia Queally said. "The team is comprised of an amazing group of young men that have a strong commitment to our championship culture here at Stetson, and I know they will not let this change in circumstance derail their commitment to continuing to excel on the field and in the classroom. We appreciate all that Coach Gookins has done for both the team and Stetson during his time with us. We wish him well in the future, as he will always be a Hatter."

A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.
