Chambers Scores 27 as Hatters Down NKU 67-56

Stetson plays most complete game of the season

DeLand, Fla. -- Brittney Chambers scored a career-high 27 points as Stetson defeated Northern Kentucky 67-56 Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (4-4) shot 42 percent from the field and won all four quarters of a game for the first time this season.

"As far as consistency goes, yes, this is probably our first (complete) game, because even in the games we won, we still had a let down in the fourth quarter," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "This game was absolutely much better.  Our energy was better, the bench was better. I thought everything was good."

Stetson also bounced back from a tough loss to High Point on Monday in a game where the Hatters let a 10-point third quarter lead slip away.  On Wednesday, NKU sliced a 16-point deficit down to eight, but Chambers scored eight fourth-quarter points to help preserve the victory.

"I thought (Brittney) really took over the game," Bria said.  "When they cut it to nine or so, I thought she made some huge plays.  Those were big baskets that we needed, and she got a huge rebound and putback that I thought were really important."

Chambers was aggressive from start to finish, making 10 of her 19 shot attempts and getting to the free throw line on several occasions.  McKenna Beach aided the offensive effort with 11 points and seven assists, including the 200th assist of her career.

"I think the main thing for us was to come out with a lot of energy," Beach said.  "I thought this game we moved the ball a lot better, especially against the zone.  We attacked the basket more, got fouled, and that really helped us."

Sydney Wager also scored 11 points behind 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range.  Stetson shot 40 percent from the arc for the game.

Defensively, the Hatters blocked a season-high six shots, including four from Megan Vincent.  Stetson also recorded eight steals and helped force 18 NKU turnovers.

Molly Glick had 21 points to lead the Norse (1-5).

The Hatters will host Webber at 11 a.m. Friday in the annual Volusia County Elementary School game.
