Hatters Cruise Past NJIT 72-53

Michelle Pruitt Goes For 19 Points and 18 Rebounds

Newark, N.J. -- Freshman Michelle Pruitt registered career-highs of 19 points and 18 rebounds as visiting Stetson defeated NJIT 72-53 Saturday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center.

The Hatters (15-11, 6-4 ASUN) shot 46 percent from the floor and pulled down 50 rebounds to earn their 15th victory of the season.  

"After the first quarter I thought we played pretty well," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought our rebounding was great.  I thought Michelle Pruitt was a monster the entire game.  She is playing with a lot of confidence and it is really nice to see."

Pruitt had her third double-double of the season by halftime after scoring nine straight points for the Hatters to close the second quarter.  She finished the game 8-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the free throw line.

Also for Stetson, Brittney Chambers scored 17 points and McKenna Beach added 13.  Beach also recorded her 100th assist of the season.  Megan Vincent collected nine points and eight rebounds.

Kelly Guarino scored 14 points for NJIT (3-22, 1-9).

The Hatters will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate at 7 p.m. Monday.

Notes: 
  • Stetson improved to 6-0 all-time vs. NJIT
  • The Hatters improved to 9-2 this season following a loss (4-0 in ASUN play)
  • Pruitt three double-doubles have come in each of Stetson's three road ASUN victories (Lipscomb, UNF, NJIT)
  • Pruitt is the first Hatter with 18 rebounds since Sarah Sagerer collected 18 at FGCU on Feb. 25 last season
  • Stetson held a 40-16 advantage in points in the paint.
  • The Hatters topped 50 rebounds for the third time in ASUN play.
  • Stetson hit six 3-pointers including three by Beach and two by Wagner.
