Hatters Fall 79-62 at Arkansas Monday Night

Brianti Saunders leads with 17 points

Fayetteville, Ark. – Stetson suffered its first loss of the season Monday night, falling 79-62 to host Arkansas at Bud Walton Arena.

In a battle of two unbeaten teams, the Hatters (4-1) cut a 17-point second half deficit down to 10 with 5:01 to play, but the Razorbacks held on down the stretch to improve to 4-0 on the year.

"I thought we dug ourselves a really big hole in the first half," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Arkansas came out and hit a lot of shots.  They knocked them down.  We didn't make any from the perimeter, at least in the first half.  I thought we played much better in the second half."

Brianti Saunders led the Hatters with 17 points, and moved from fifth-place to third-place on Stetson's all-time scoring list.  Breana Bey added 14 points and five rebounds.
Johanna McMillan played 16 minutes and scored three points in her Hatter debut.

Jessica Jackson scored 19 points to lead Arkansas.  The Razorbacks owned a 45-20 advantage on the boards.

The Hatters will return to action this weekend at the FIU Turkey Slam Invitational in Miami.  Stetson will play Robert Morris at 2 p.m. Friday to open the tournament.  The Hatters will then play either FIU or Weber State on Sunday.

Notes: Brianti Saunders has scored in double figures in all five games.  She passed Kristy Brown and Victoria McGowan on Stetson's all-time scoring list. She now has 1,536 career points.  She also improved to 19-for-19 from the free throw line this season … Breana Bey collected five rebounds for the 22nd straight game … McKenna Beach had a season-high five assists in 22 minutes played.
