Hatters Play Best Game of the Year in 81-47 Win

Stetson Wins Fourth in a Row on the Road

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Brianti Saunders led five Hatters in double figures with 23 points as Stetson improved to 8-1 on the season with an 81-47 victory over High Point Saturday afternoon at the Millis Center.

The Hatters shot a season-high 56 percent from the floor and outscored the Panthers 30-3 over a 14 minute stretch spanning the second and third quarters.  High Point (1-6) shot just 26 percent.

"I am just pleased overall. I thought it was our best game of the year," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought we were really good defensively. Our effort and our execution with the scout were excellent.  I haven't been real happy with how we have been playing, but today we showed that we are good team."

Sarah Sagerer provided a huge spark off the bench, registering 17 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks, including the 100th block of her career.  She is the fifth Hatter all-time to reach that mark.  It was also her third double-double of the season.

Saunders, meanwhile, scored her 1600th career point early in the game and moved within five points of Stetson's all-time scoring record of 1,617 points, held by Sasha Sims (2010-14). Saunders was 8-for-15 from the floor Saturday, connecting on five 3-pointers en route to a season-high scoring output.  She added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Also for Stetson, Breana Bey scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while Myka Johnson-Matthews (5-for-6) and Kennedi Colclough (5-for-8) added 10 points apiece.

Stetson owned a 42-34 advantage on the glass and scored 54 points in the paint.

The Hatters will go for win No. 9 and Saunders will go for the all-time scoring record on Monday night at Chattanooga.

Notes:

Stetson's 16-0 run in the second quarter was a season-high … Saunders has scored in double figures in all nine games this season. It was her fourth 20+ game … Stetson had 10 blocks as a team for the first time since Mar. 8, 2014 vs. Florida Gulf Coast … The last Hatter to hit five 3-pointers in a game was also Brianti Saunders on Feb. 12, 2015 vs. Lipscomb … Sarah Sagerer blocked seven shots for the second time this season (eight vs. Valparaiso, Nov. 12). She had six blocks in the first half alone … The Hatters had several fans in attendance, including a large turnout from the families of Maryland natives Myka Johnson-Matthews and Kennedi Colclough.
