DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson Goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, Mo.) registered her second shutout of the week as the Hatters and Flames of Liberty University played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. Stetson is now 2-4-2 on the season, Liberty improved to 0-5-1.
“Andy made a couple of great saves to keep us in the game,” said Stetson Head Coach Julie Orlowski.
Garavaglia finished with 10 saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart Karen Blocker (Bowie, Md.) was nearly as good making eight saves.
The game was evenly played with each team putting up 21 shots in 110 minutes, which included five each in overtime.
“42 shots and no goals scored is a testament to two very good goalkeepers and two stingy defenses,” said Orlowski. “Games like this show us that we learned our lessons from games earlier in the season. Our tactical decisions were very good today.”
Sophomore Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.) played an inspired game with nine shots, five of which were on goal.
Stetson is now undefeated in the last four games giving up just three goals in that span. The Hatters are on a positive roll heading into conference play.
Stetson continues its current home-stand with games against Mercer on Friday (9/26) at 7:00 p.m. and Kennesaw State on Sunday (9/28) at 2:00 p.m.
