Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, In-State Matchups Highlight Men's Basketball Schedule

DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson men's basketball program released its 2010-11 schedule on Thursday, a highly competitive and intriguing slate that features five postseason qualifiers, three ACC opponents, a three-game multi-team event in Las Vegas and a home game against former A-Sun arch-rival UCF.  The Hatters will host 13 regular season games and one exhibition game at the Edmunds Center.

After hosting NCAA Division II foe Florida Tech in an exhibition game (Nov. 5), the Hatters open the regular season Nov. 12 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at Wake Forest.  The Demon Deacons reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last March.  Four days later, Stetson visits Bethune-Cookman in the 24th installment of the Volusia County rivalry series.

Stetson's home opener is Tuesday, Nov. 23 against UCF as the Hatters and Knights meet on the court for the 37th time but for the first time at the Edmunds Center since Feb. 10, 2005.  UCF left the Atlantic Sun for Conference USA following the 2004-05 season.

Home games against Palm Beach Atlantic (Nov. 26) and Savannah State (Nov. 30) close out November and lead the Hatters into A-Sun play, which begins with dates at Jacksonville (Dec. 2) and North Florida (Dec. 4).  After a week off for final exams, Stetson returns to the road for five non-conference games.  The on-campus portion of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic sees Stetson visit Miami on Dec. 12 for the 81st matchup in the historic series.  This will be the eighth consecutive season where the Hatters face the Hurricanes.

For the ninth year in a row, Stetson takes on NCAA tournament qualifier Florida State as the Hatters visit the Seminoles on Dec. 15.  The Hatters then fly out west for three games in three days at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Holiday Hoops Classic from Dec. 21-23.  Stetson will face Rice, Akron and Arkansas-Little Rock in this unique event; the Akron Zips won 24 games last season and advanced to the CBI tournament.

The new year and resumption of the A-Sun schedule begins Jan. 3 at home against Lipscomb with Belmont following them into the Edmunds Center two days later.  The remainder of Stetson's home conference schedule will be played against Mercer (Jan. 14), Kennesaw State (Jan. 16), FGCU (Jan. 25), USC Upstate (Feb. 4), defending champion ETSU (Feb. 6), Campbell (Feb. 17), North Florida (Feb. 24) and Jacksonville (Feb. 26).  The Hatters will travel to each of these teams as well to complete the 20-game double round robin schedule.  A non-conference re-match at Savannah State (Jan. 18) is on the schedule as well.  The A-Sun Tournament returns to Macon, Georgia and Mercer's University Center March 2-5.

Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team honoree Ridge Graham (Stuart, Fla.) and sophomore guard Tyshawn Patterson (Orlando, Fla.) highlight a young, exciting roster that will be bolstered by the addition of redshirt forward Jermol Paul (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Head Coach Derek Waugh's highly regarded recruiting class.
