Wyoming Cruises Past Stetson, 65-41

LARAMIE, Wyo.—Stetson's Kentwan Smith scored a game-high 16 points but it wasn't enough as undefeated Wyoming handed the Hatters a 65-41 setback, Wednesday at Arena Auditorium.

Smith was 5-of-8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, and 4-of-6 from the line in enjoying his first double-figure scoring effort of the season. But the senior forward couldn't help the Hatters (2-4) overcome a bad start and stout Wyoming (5-0) squad.

The Cowboys jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Wyoming pushed the advantage into double figures for the first time when a Riley Grabau three-pointer made it 16-5 with 14:14 left in the first half. The advantage swelled to 33-16 with 4:34 left in the half before the teams combined to finish the half 0-for-5 from the field with five turnovers. Stetson made just four field goals in the first half.

Wyoming cruised in the second half, building a 57-30 advantage with 6:03 to play before Smith and the Hatters made a slight comeback. Smith scored seven straight points on a pair of free throws, a three-pointer and a tip-in to bring Stetson within 57-37 with 4:25 to go but the Hatters never got any closer.

Stetson shot just 34.2 percent from the field, including 18.2 percent (4-22) in the first half. The Hatters shot at a 56.3 percent clip in the second half.

Wyoming out-rebounded Stetson, 32-21, and shot 54.5 percent from the field in becoming the first Stetson opponent to shoot over 43 percent this season.

Larry Nance, Jr., led Wyoming with 15 points. Jonathan Joseph scored nine points in 19 minutes off the bench for the Hatters.

Stetson continues play when they visit Northern Colorado, 9 p.m., Friday in Greeley, Colo.
