Jacksonville, Fla. -- The Hatters have put together some strong defensive performances this season, but perhaps none as impressive as Saturday's 67-38 victory at North Florida.
Stetson (13-4, 2-1 Atlantic Sun) held UNF to 16 points in the first half and 22 in the second half to set a school-record for fewest points allowed on the road against a Division I opponent.
UNF (9-9, 0-3) shot just 27.3 percent for the game.
"Our defense was outstanding," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "I thought we guarded them really, really well. I thought we got off to a great start. I was really happy with our effort."
Myeisha Hall led all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor. Jama Sharp approached a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and eight steals. She was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and also collected six assists.
"Jama played a great game," Bria said. "She was all over the place. What I am most proud of was she was being aggressive offensively and looking to shoot. I thought she and Myeisha had a great combination. They had some great back door screens."
With her career-high-tying eight steals, Sharp became the fifth player in school history record 250 steals in a career.
"I just go in and do what I need to do to help my team get better and put them in a position where they can score," Sharp said.
Stetson collected 16 steals as a team, and turned many those opportunities into transition points. The Hatters scored 33 points off of UNF turnovers, and held a 22-0 advantage in points off turnovers at halftime.
"I like that (statistic)," Bria said. "We work hard on our defense, and I said that at the beginning of the year we were going to be a better defensive team. I like what we do emphasize in practice and they take it to the game. When you get points off turnovers, it gives you a lot of confidence as a player."
Stetson led 20-6 early in the contest and extended the advantage to 37-16 at halftime. The Hatters led by as many as 33 points in the second half before finishing the 29-point victory.
Brianti Saunders added 12 points for Stetson.
Winners of two straight and six out of seven, the Hatters will host Kennesaw State on Thursday.
