Stetson Sweeps Hatter Classic as Bria Becomes Program's All-Time Winningest Coach

Lynn Bria Earns Her 185th Win With the Hatters

Stetson completed a two-game sweep of the 2017 Hatter Classic with a 61-54 victory over Texas State Thursday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The victory made Lynn Bria the winningest coach in Stetson women's basketball history as she captured her 185th win with the Hatters.  She surpassed Dee Romine, who accumulated 184 wins from 1993-2008.

"It takes a lot of good players to get to 185 wins," Bria said after the game.  "I am grateful.  Hopefully I can get a lot more in the next 10 years."

"She is very humble about it and says the players do it all for her, but she is a big part of the success, just as much as we are," junior McKenna Beach said.

Beach was selected to the all-tournament team after the Hatters (8-6) rallied in the fourth quarter for the second straight day.  Trailing 52-51 with 3:16 to go, Sydney Wagner buried a 3-pointer from the left corner to put Stetson up by two.

Moments later with the score tied at 54, Wagner connected from long range again, this time from the right corner, to put Stetson ahead for good.

"Syd hit two huge 3s that we really needed, and after that the game just opened up for us," Bria said.  "We couldn't score down the stretch, and Syd hitting those two 3s was the difference in the game."

Kennedi Colclough and Brittney Chambers each recorded 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hatters.  Beach added 13 points, six steals and four assists, while Wagner hit three 3s and netted nine.

Taeler Deer scored 15 points to lead the Bobcats (7-4).

The Hatters earned a share of the Hatter Classic title for the sixth time in the past eight seasons.  Bethune-Cookman also went 2-0 this year after defeating Richmond 63-50 on Thursday.

Stetson heads into the holiday break with a record of 8-6. The Hatters will play at the FAU Invitaional on Dec. 29-30.

All-Tournament Team:
McKenna Beach (Stetson), Brooke Holle (Texas State), Angel Golden (Bethune-Cookman), Micaela Parson (Richmond). No MVP.

Notes:
Stetson improved to 6-1 at home ... Brittney Chambers extended her double figure scoring streak to 20 games … Megan Vincent had four blocks Thursday and seven for the tournament … Stetson recorded 16 assists on 19 field goals … Kennedi Colclough was perfect from the line for the second straight game (5-for-5) … The Hatters won for the first time this season when scoring less than 65 points … Bria, who is in her 10th season with the Hatters, is also the third winningest coach in Ohio University history and the fourth winningest coach in UCF history.
