Hatters Fall to #23 USF 6-3

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson cut a 4-1 deficit down to 4-3 but could pull no closer as the 23rd-ranked USF Bulls claimed a 6-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Blake Crews went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jazz Vasquez also collected a pair of hits as the Hatters fell to 10-3 on the season.

Kelsey Waters also had one of five Stetson hits on the day.

"I thought we had an opportunity to win along the way, but it just didn't work out," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "We stranded some runners.  I am happy that we were competitive against both Ole Miss and USF these past two days despite having a young team, so that is a good sign."

Tori Perkins (6-3) pitched the first five innings Sunday, while Brooke Hutto worked the final two frames in relief.

Crews extended her league-leading RBI total to 20 on the season.  She gave Stetson an early 1-0 lead with a two-out single to center in the bottom of the second that scored Linda Ross.  She also had a two-out RBI double to rightcenter field in the fourth inning to score Waters.

The Hatters stole four bases on the day.  Vasquez and Waters were named to the Hatter Invitational all-tournament team.

Stetson will host the Hatter Classic next weekend at Patricia Wilson Field, beginning with a Friday afternoon game against Bethune-Cookman.

All-Tournament Team:
USF - Kristen Wyckoff, Kalen McGill
Colgate - Holly Geranen, Pami White
Stetson - Kelsey Waters, Jazz Vasquez
Ole Miss - Alyssa Clayton, Elantra Cox
