Hatters Fall 2-1 in Eight Innings

Jacksonville, Fla. -- For the third time in the series, Stetson and Jacksonville battled into extra innings, and for the third straight time, the Dolphins came away with a one-run victory.

Allie McCourt scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as JU defeated Stetson 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Pruitt Softball Complex.

The Hatters completed their 2017 season with a 26-21 record.

Kelsey Waters hit her sixth home run of the season and the 15th of her career to account for Stetson's lone run.

Starting pitcher Tori Perkins allowed just four hits and two unearned runs in 7.2 innings of work.  She recorded 17 fly ball outs and retired nine in a row from the fifth through the eighth innings.

Waters and Maggie Fritts led Stetson with two hit apiece.  The Hatters played three straight extra inning games for the first time since 2010.


Jacksonville improved to 30-23 on the season.

It was also the final career game for seniors Lydia Kinney, Jessie TenBroeck and Waters.

Notes:

Lydia Kinney finished her career having played in 49 games making 27 starts.  She recorded 12 hits and scored 13 runs.

Jessie TenBroeck finished her career having played 203 games, making 203 starts and having missed just one game in four seasons.  She is Stetson's all-time leader in runs (157) and stolen bases (142), and the ASUN all-time leader in stolen bases (142).  Her 214 hits ranks third all-time in school history.  She also ranks among Stetson's all-time statistical leaders in batting average (.330), on-base percentage (.423), at-bats (649), doubles (28), total bases (264), walks (90), and assists (283).  Her 48 stolen bases this season rank as the second-highest single season total in school history.  

Kelsey Waters finished her career having played 165 games making 156 starts.  She ranks among Stetson's all-time statistical leaders in batting average (.317), slugging percentage (.513), on-base percentage (.412), home runs (15), total bases (220), walks (67) and stolen bases (49). In addition, her 12 career triples ranks second all-time in school history.  She became just the sixth Hatter in school history to steal 30 bases in a season this year (32).

Stetson's 132 stolen bases and 5.26 scoring average were the third-highest single-season totals in school history.
