Stetson Slugs Its Way to Weekend Sweep

Hatters Hit Four Home Runs on the Day

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson broke out the bats Saturday, scoring a combined 22 runs on 29 hits, hitting four home runs along the way, in picking up 9-0 and 13-7 wins over Mount St. Mary's and Brown at Patricia Wilson Field.

Coupled with Friday's low-scoring 2-1 and 3-2 wins, the Hatters (6-7) completed a four-game weekend sweep at the Hatter Invitational.

Maggie Fritts, Ashly Smith, Devin Lewis, and Molly McLaughlin each went deep for the Hatters.

Stetson 9, Mount St. Mary's 0

Fritts led the charge in Game 1, going 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run and two RBI.

The Hatters broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth inning, including three tallies on Ashly Smith's bases-loaded double.  Blake Crews also had a pair of hits for the Hatters.

Jaime Tino pitched a six-hit shutout, her second of the season.

Stetson 13, Brown 7

The Hatters set a single-game school record with 30 total bases. Stetson notched 18 hits in a game for the first time since 2011.  Six of the hits went for extra bases (three doubles, three home runs).  Smith and Lewis went back-to-back in the second inning, and McLaughlin added a solo shot in the sixth.  It was the first career home runs for Lewis and McLaughlin.

Smith went 4-for-5 to raise her average to .465.  She scored twice and drove in three.  Lewis went 3-for-3 and McLaughlin went 3-for-4.  She finished the weekend with seven hits.

Tino (4-2) picked up the win in the circle in relief.

The Hatters stole seven bases on the day but were also caught stealing for the first time all season.

Stetson will return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Mount St. Mary's.
