Hatters Shutout Tennessee State for Program's 1000th Win

DeLand, Fla. -- Jaime Tino tossed her third shutout of the year and Lizzie Shubert hit her second home run as Stetson defeated Tennessee State 10-0 Friday night to capture its 1000th victory in program history.

The Hatters (8-8) are just the fourth fastpitch program in the state of Florida and 56th program in the country to earn 1000 wins at the Division I level.

Stetson scored in every inning against the Tigers (0-14), including five in the first to grab an early lead.  Ashly Smith hit an RBI triple to get the offense going, and Danielle Diaz added a two-run single later in the inning.

Shubert's home run was hit to leftcenter field to lead off the fourth.

Tino needed just 62 pitches to complete the five-inning, three-hit shutout.  She walked two and struck out two.

Earlier in the day, Stetson fell 9-8 to Drexel (3-3-1).  The Hatters had trailed 9-1, but scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the gap to one.

Kasey Fava and Molly McLaughlin each had two hits while Linda Ross drove in a pair of runs.

The Hatters began competing in fastpitch in 1985 and own an all-time record of 1000-718 (.582).

Stetson will begin working on its next 1000 wins on Saturday when it faces Cornell (5 p.m.) and Tennessee State (7 p.m.).
