Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State banged out seven extra-base hits on Wednesday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium to complete a two-game sweep of visiting Stetson with a 10-4 victory.
The Seminoles (26-14) also took advantage of six walks from Stetson (18-22) pitchers and another four hit batters to help plate the runs.
FSU jumped out to an early lead when, after Mike Salvatore reached on a line drive to left that
Noah Dickerson was unable to come up with for a triple, Drew Mendoza hit a two-run homer to left.
Stetson starter
Mitchell Senger (1-4) seemed rattled after the homer, walking the next batter before hitting two straight to load the bases. Freshman
Daniel Paret came on in relief and got the Hatters out of the inning with no further damage.
FSU starting pitcher Shane Drohan (3-1) was dominant over three innings of work, allowing two hits while striking out eight.
Stetson got a run back after Drohan left the game.
Baylen Sparks reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dickerson. The Hatters had a chance for more, but left the bases loaded when
Jacob Koos lined out to end the inning.
FSU pushed its lead to 6-1 in the fourth inning, getting a two-run homer from Elijah Cabell, a triple from Reese Albert followed by a sacrifice fly and a solo homer from Mendoza, his second of the game.
The Hatters got two of those runs back in the fifth when Jorge Areans and
Eric Foggo hit consecutive pitches from Antonio Velez off the scoreboard in left.
FSU kept up the pressure, scoring a run in the fifth off
Danny Garcia and two more, both unearned, off
Michael Bacica in the sixth.
Albert opened the seventh for FSU with his second triple of the day and scored on a single by Salvatore.
Stetson scored a single run in the eighth after a pair of walks and a pair of ground outs.
Dickerson and
Mark Townsend led the Hatters with two hits each in the game.
The Hatters will be back in action on Friday night in Nashville, opening a three-game ASUN series against Lipscomb.
