Hatters head to Peach State to take on Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set to head to Atlanta, Ga. on Friday, Nov. 12 as the Hatters take on Georgia Tech in a non-conference bout. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Hatters come off a season-opening 74-67 win over Florida Memorial University as Rob Perry led all scorers with 25 points in only 22 minutes. After only playing four minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, the junior finished 6-for-13 from the field and 11-for-12 from the line to lead the way for the Hatters. Sophomore Chase Johnston contributed 20 points, playing 34 minutes, and going 8-for-17 in field goals. Stephan Swenson accounted for seven assists and a career-high six steals against the Lions.

As a team, the Hatters shot 43.9 percent from the field, 29.2 percent from beyond the arc and 73.9 percent from the line.

Stetson will face a Georgia Tech team that comes off a 72-69 loss at home against Miami (Ohio) back on Nov. 9. The Yellow Jackets Michael Devoe led all scorers on the night with 26 points, going 8-for-18 from the field and 4-for-6 from long range. Devoe's four triples were the only ones the Jackets knocked down as Georgia Tech was cold from beyond three-point land, only going 4-17 on the night. Jackets center Rodney Howard recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds while Jordan Usher was one rebound shy of his own double-double, putting up 12 points and nine boards.

Friday's contest between the two schools will be the second all-time meeting between the Hatters and the Yellow Jackets. The Jackets topped the Hatters 44-33 over 100 years ago on Feb. 5, 1920. Fifty-three years later, the Hatters beat the Jackets 81-70 in February of 1973 to knot the series up a one apiece.

The Hatters look to win back-to-back games to start a season for the first time since the 2019-20 season when Stetson defeated Trinity Baptist and Western Illinois in back-to-back games.

Friday's game at Georgia Tech is the first of three straight road games for Stetson as the Hatters will travel to Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, Nov. 17 and then down to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas on Friday. Nov. 19.
