DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's soccer program and head coach Emmett Rutkowski announce the hire of new full-time assistant coach Jaime Ibarra as of May 2, 2022.
Ibarra comes to Stetson with over eight years of collegiate coaching experience after a successful four-year career at Southern Methodist University. Most recently, Ibarra spent the last three seasons as the assistant coach for UNC Greensboro. While at UNCG, Ibarra primarily worked with the goalkeepers and helped the Spartans to two Southern Conference regular season titles and the 2020 Southern Conference tournament championship.
Before his tenure in Greensboro, Ibarra spent two seasons at his alma mater of SMU as the men's soccer graduate assistant. While there, he assisted in all aspects of the SMU soccer program from assisting in administrative tasks and the recruitment process to cultivating a lasting relationship with alumni. Six months prior to becoming the graduate assistant, Ibarra was the SMU men's soccer director of operations where he oversaw everyday team and training operations and acted as the SMU soccer camps director and goalkeepers coach.
"I am pleased to have Jaime join our staff at Stetson. I have known Jaime since he was a player at SMU and he possesses the type of values we aspire in our men's soccer program and at Stetson University," said Rutkowski. "His work ethic is second to none and he helped build the UNCG program into a NCAA tournament program in his three years."
In August 2015, Ibarra broke into the college coaching scene as an assistant coach at Mountain Valley Community College in Dallas, Texas.
Ibarra graduated from SMU in 2013 after a decorated playing career that saw him earn a spot on the 2011 C-USA all-tournament team. The following year, Ibarra was named the C-USA Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
He earned a B.A. in history and a M.B.E in bilingual education from SMU.
