Bullard, Stagliano Named to 2022 ASUN All-Freshman Team

A pair of Stetson University Baseball's standout freshmen from the 2022 season were named to the ASUN Conference All-Freshman team, the league announced today.

Redshirt freshman first baseman Jake Bullard and true freshman right-handed pitcher Dominic Stagliano were two of the 13 players named to the ASUN All-Freshman team for 2022.

Bullard, a native of Hampton, NH, finished the season second on the Stetson team in hitting with a .275 average while playing in 51 of 55 games, starting 48 games at first base. Bullard hit in the middle of the Stetson batting order for much of the season, playing 34 games in the cleanup spot in the order.

He had 12 multiple-hit games on the year and had five multiple-RBI outings. He started the season with a seven-game hit streak and followed that with a 13-game streak, which tied for the longest on the team this year. He had a 19-game on-base streak during the year, second best on the team, and finished the season having reached base in 12 consecutive games.

Stagliano, a native of Boynton Beach, Fla., had a banner rookie season, posting a 5-0 record in 18 appearances, including three starts, while posting a 3.21 ERA in 53.1 innings. He finished fourth on the team with 55 strikeouts while walking just 12 of the 222 batters he faced.

Stagliano earned a save in his very first collegiate outing, getting a strikeout for the final out against Manhattan on February 20.

He earned his first collegiate victory on March 4 in his first start, throwing 6.2 innings against Sacred Heart while allowing just one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts. He came back to earn another win in his second start, throwing five innings against Maine.

Set a season-high with seven strikeouts in four innings of shutout relief against Bethune-Cookman on March 30.

Threw three no-hit innings against Florida State on May 3 to earn his second save of the year and followed up with victories against Kennesaw State and Jacksonville in his final two appearances of the year, going a season-high seven innings against JU while allowing two runs on five hits in his final start.

Stetson has had 42 players earn ASUN All-Freshman honors since the team was initiated as part of the league's post-season awards in 2001. Among the Hatters to have earned ASUN All-Freshman team recognition are former Major Leaguers Brian Bocock (2004) and Chris Johnson (2005) as well as current New York Mets catcher Patrick Mazeika (2013).
