DELAND, Fla. – Stetson women's soccer dropped a match to UTSA, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the Athletic Training Center East field.
Â
"It was great to get the game in," head coach
Chris Bergmann said "I thought we created some great offensive opportunities, hitting the crossbar and post, ultimately it comes down to finishing your chances. We had a good resolve and kept finding them and the difference in the game was they put their chances away and we didn't put ours away."
Â
Stetson forced pressure early with
Maggie Struble getting a one-on-one opportunity with Roadrunner goalkeeper Mia Krusinski in the fourth minute. The senior forward attempt to beat the keeper with power and the shot deflected out for a corner kick.
Â
In the 10th minute, the Roadrunners pushed in front. After an attack from the visitors appeared to have fizzled out, an errant clearance deflected and landed at the feet of Anna Sutter. Sutter slotted a one-touch shot to the lower right, giving UTSA a 1-0 advantage.
Â
Three minutes and 48 seconds later, the Roadrunners doubled the advantage. Avery Chaney's free kick was met by Deja Sandoval on the far post, where Sandoval redirected the knock to the near post. Sasjah Dade was first in getting to the ball for the tap in (2-0).
Â
At the 47:20 mark of the match, two minute 20 seconds into the second half the visitors knocked in their third goal. Sabrina Hillyer played a long cross into the box with Sutter waiting on the other end. Sutter, with her back to goal and Hatter goalkeeper
Ashleigh Wise, played the ball over Wise and into the upper left 90.
Â
Stetson had a few opportunities down the stretch with a shot rattling off the left post in the 75th minute, and Arianna Lobardi with a header that was cleared off the line two minutes later, but were ultimately shut out.
Â
Wise recorded five saves in the match off 16 shots, eight on goal.
Â
Stetson women's soccer will go on the road to Montgomery, Alabama, to play Alabama State. The scheduled kickoff is 1 p.m., Sunday afternoon.
