Diego Davis's name echoed through the Pioneer Football League this past week as he clinched Defensive Player of the Week honors following the team's decisive 38-28 win over Webber International on Saturday night.
In that game, the sophomore linebacker from Napa, Calif., showcased his defensive prowess by filling out the stat sheet with seven tackles, including three solo tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. One of his standout moments was a strip-sack near the end of the first quarter, resulting in a loss of 12 yards and a fumble that the Hatters promptly recovered. This turnover set the stage for a Hatters' touchdown, propelling them to a commanding 28-0 lead.
Through the first two games of the season, Davis demonstrated his consistency and impact on the field. He has tallied an impressive 24 tackles, which is the second-highest on the team, with 10 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles. Additionally, he has recorded four tackles for a loss totaling 28 yards and two sacks, resulting in a loss of 20 yards. Notably, Davis forced a fumble in each of the first two games of the season, emphasizing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Diego Davis's remarkable performance not only earned him individual recognition but also marked a significant achievement for the team. He became the first Hatter to receive conference honors in the current season.
