DELAND, FL - Former Stetson head cross country coach Margaret "Maggie" Dobson has passed after battling ovarian cancer for more than two years, Dobson was 85.
Maggie coached the Hatters for four years starting in 1989. Dobson was hired by former legendary head coach Glenn Wilkes who was serving as athletic director at the time. While serving as the cross country coach, Dobson continued to work in the Provost Office at Stetson.
Maggie was a Hatter through and through as she worked at Stetson for 23 years, all three of her children have Stetson degrees. Dobson even earned her bachelor of business administration degree from Stetson.
Dobson enjoyed all athletics as she was a FIFA referee for 25 years and longtime youth soccer coach. She was always enjoying some type of athletic activity whether it was running, walking, cycling, pickleball and golf where she even recorded a hole-in-one.
Maggie was born Margaret Grace Munday in 1939 in London, England. She married her husband George in 1962 and came to the United States in 1966. Maggie is survived by her husband, George Dobson, DeLand; daughter, Elaine Dobson Lerner and son-in-law, Lee Lerner, Sanford; daughter, Kerry Dobson, DeLand; and son, Craig Dobson and daughter-in-law, Ihssane French Dobson, Lake Mary. Also surviving are numerous loving relatives in England.
