DELAND, Fla. - Stetson softball fans were treated to a pair of wins on day two of the 2025 Frank Griffin Classis on Saturday, though they couldn't have been more different. The Hatters opened their day by picking up their third consecutive shutout to open the season, taking down FDU 5-0 before rallying from a 5-run deficit en route to a 14-10 win over Chattanooga in the nightcap.
The Hatters (4-0) loaded the bases in the first frame, before striking for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. A single from catcher

Annabella McClerren, followed by an error on a sacrifice bunt from right fielder

Amber Chumley, who pushed the game's first run across on a hard-hit ball to the shortstop. Following a sharply hit lineout from third baseman

Riley Venn worked a walk to plate McLerren and give Stetson at 2-0 lead.
The Hatters would add on in the third, stringing together singles from second baseman
Madelyn Synoracki, Napoli, and McLerren, before shortstop
Addison Foster delivered a single of her own to left field to extend the advantage to 3-0.

Kami Eppley got things started in the fourth inning, legging out a bunt single with one out, before Synoracki singled and David walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from McLerren plated Eppley, before Napoli roped a single to right field to plate Synoracki and make the Hatter lead 5-0.
That was more than enough for the Stetson pitching staff, as
Ava Braswell,
Kennedy Temples, and
Caitlyn Kulczyski combined to limit the Knights (0-4) to just four hits on the day. Braswell (1-0) picked up the win for Stetson, striking out two in 4.0 innings of work, before Temples tossed a pair of scoreless frames and Kulczyski added a strikeout in a scoreless seventh inning.
The day's second game saw Chatanooga (2-2) strike twice in the first and three more times in the second, marking the first time this season that the Stetson pitching staff has surrendered runs, but the Hatters battled, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to cut the Mocs' lead to just one after two innnigs of play. Devon Weller singled to open the frame, and second baseman
Irianis Garcia drew a walk before Eppley blasted a long single off the fence in right field to load the bases. McClerren opened the scoring with a single to right-center a Napoli drove in a pair with a double to deep right field, before a sacrifice fly from Foster plated McClerren to make it 5-4 Chatanooga.
After
Hayley Arnold set the Mocs down in order in the top of the third, the Stetson offense continued to roll in the bottom of the inning, getting singles from English, Weller, and Garcia to open things up. Eppley delivered again, roping a single back through the middle to drive in a pair and giving the Hatters a 6-5 lead.
The Mocs evened things up with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Hatters were up to the task again, retaking the lead with five runs on just two hits in the bottom of the inning. Weller opened the inning with a walk, before two quick outs, but the Hatters kept rolling, getting a single from pinch hitter
Emily Santana and a walk from McClerren before Napoli continued her hot start with a two-run single. Foster followed with a walk, and a three-run Chatanooga error broke the game open and put Stetson on top 11-6.
The Mocs cut the Stetson advantage to one with a three-run top of the sixth, but the Hatters proved up to the challenge again, scoring three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Eppley reached on an error and catcher
Dylan Anthony drew a walk. After Napoli singled just inside the third-base bag, Foster worked a walk to drive in a run. English then singled up the middle, driving in a pair to cap the evening's scoring at 14-10.
Hayley Arnold (2-0) picked up the win on the back of 4.0 innings of relief work that saw her allow five runs on six hits while striking out four. Temple tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out one to earn her second save of the season.
The Hatters close out the weekend tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 PM, taking on the Chattanooga again.
