DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson Baseball will be represented on both sides of the mound Monday night as former Hatters Logan Gilbert and Jacob deGrom are set to square off when the Seattle Mariners visit the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. in Arlington, Texas, marking a rare moment in which two Stetson alumni will start against one another at the Major League level.
Gilbert, now in his sixth MLB season — all with Seattle — continues to anchor the Mariners' rotation. The 2024 All-Star and 2026 Opening Day starter has compiled a 47-31 career record with a 3.62 ERA across 148 starts, striking out 897 batters. Through his first two starts this season, Gilbert owns 13 strikeouts over 10.2 innings of work.
Before reaching the big leagues, Gilbert was one of the most dominant pitchers in program history. He posted a 23-3 record with a 2.49 ERA across 51 appearances at Stetson, totaling 310 strikeouts over 249 innings while holding opponents to a .202 batting average. A two-time ASUN Pitcher of the Year (2017, 2018), he helped lead the Hatters to an ASUN Championship in 2018.
Opposing him will be one of the most accomplished pitchers of his generation in deGrom, now in his 13th MLB season and fourth with the Rangers. A two-time Cy Young Award winner, deGrom has built a remarkable career, going 96-56 with a 2.58 ERA over 249 starts while recording 1,858 strikeouts in 1,544 innings.
deGrom enters the matchup after striking out seven batters across 4.2 innings in his first start of the season.
His path to the mound began at Stetson as a two-way player, before transitioning into a full-time pitching role during his junior season. That move proved pivotal, as he logged 81.1 innings and 56 strikeouts in 2010, setting the foundation for a professional career that began when he was selected in the ninth round of the MLB Draft by the New York Mets.
Monday's matchup highlights the continued success of Stetson Baseball at the professional level, with two former Hatters taking the ball on one of baseball's biggest stages.
The Mariners (4-6) enter the contest fourth in the American League West, while the Rangers (4-5) sit third in the division.
