Biography

Nassau, N.Y. - University of Nebraska tight end Tracey Wistrom has been selected as one of six semifinalists for the 2001 John Mackey Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate tight end.

A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Wistrom caught 21 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns this season for the 11-1 Huskers. The senior from Webb City, Mo., has established himself as one of the finest tight ends in school history, leading all NU tight ends in yards with 1,150, while ranking second only to Jerry List with 58 receptions. He tied a school record against Iowa with three TD receptions and earned third-team All-America honors in 2000, catching 19 passes for 314 yards and five scores. In the classroom, Wistrom is one of 16 recipients of the National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame Scholarship and is a two-time first-team Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII selection.

Wistrom is one of three Big 12 tight ends who made the Mackey semifinalist list, joining Colorado's Daniel Graham and Oklahoma's Trent Smith. Other semifinalists include Justin Peelle (Oregon), Jeremy Shockey (Miami) and Tim Stratton (Purdue).

The top three finalists will be announced on Dec. 5, with the 2001 honoree being selected on Dec. 12.
