Susan Saint Sing begins her third
season as the head coach for the Stetson crew program. She brings tremendous experience and
knowledge to her team.
She was a member of the 1993 US World Rowing Team, has a
Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Penn State University, and has sailed nore than 10,000
blue water miles
Saint Sing was a volunteer assistant
for one year with Stetson before taking over the program. Prior to that she was
the volunteer rowing coach at the United States Naval Academy (2006-07), the
head men's and women's crew coach at Penn State (2001-03), and she coached at
the prestigious Kent School in Connecticut.
During her career she has also
worked as the manager for the United States National Rowing Team for the World
Rowing Championships in 1993, the U.S. Rowing National Development Camp Manager
in 1991, and was the Program Director for the U.S. National Rowing Center in
Cincinnati from 1987-89.
Saint Sing is the author of eight
books including The
Wonder Crew: The Untold Story of A Coach Navy Rowing and Olympic Immortality. This is a book on the longest winning streak in Olympic
history-- rowing in the 1920 Olympic Games. Her most recent book is on Harvard
Rowing entitled, The
Eight: One Season in the Tradition of Harvard Crew.
She has spoken and published at various universities in
the O.S. including in 2011 at the University of Notre Dame for their nationally
acclaimed “Play Like a Champion Series.”
Saint Sing has spoken internationally for both academic and athletic
conferences in several universities--most notably a Vatican appointment in 2009
to speak with an international panel of sport administrators from Africa,
Japan, Russia, South America and various nations of the world.
Saint Sing has coached teams to seven
national rowing medals, including two at Stetson for the lightweight women. Under her coaching leadership, Stetson's men won
their first Florida State Championship in the men’s light four in 2011.
In 2010 and 2011 the lightweight women won state and regional titles and medals including two bronze medals at the Dad
Vail National Regatta and the team has been nationally ranked in the top 13 in the U.S.
for the past two years.
Saint Sing earned her bachelor's degree in
Physical Education and Fine Arts from Penn State University, her master's
degree in Health and Nutrition Science and Exercise Physiology from the
University of Cincinnati, and her Ph.D. in Sport History and Philosophy from
Penn State in 2004. |
