Andrew Rouse, a former Stetson Rower himself, joined the Stetson Athletics staff in September of 2021 as Assistant Rowing Coach. He works with both the men's and women's rowing teams.
A native of Altamonte Springs, Rouse was a four-year varsity rower for the Hatters and was a three-time team captain. When he joined the Stetson crew, he was one of only two rowers on the men's roster. By the time he received his Bachelor's degree in 2017, the squad had grown to include more than 20 student-athletes.
As a senior, he helped the Stetson squad compete in the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa., and was part of the Varsity 4+ crew that advanced to the grand finale, a first in program history.
In addition to his Stetson rowing career, Rouse also compete for the Oklahoma City National High Performance Center, which is a USOC Training site in Oklahoma City, for the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia and for the Potomac Boat Club in Washington, D.C. He was part of crews that earned two second place finishes at the U23 National Team Trials, was a five-time National Champion at the US Rowing National Championship Regatta and earned a gold medal in the U23 Heavyweight Quad at the 2016 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
In addition to his experience as a competitor, Rouse served as assistant women's rowing coach at Winter Park High School for a year and then spent two years as the head rowing coach and boathouse director at Lake Brantley High, growing that program from 38 athletes in 2018 to 72 athletes by the spring of 2020.Â
Rouse also spent one year as the men's freshman/novice coach at Purdue University.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Management and was an a member of the Academic Honor Roll at Stetson in addition to being involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He is a U.S. Rowing Level II Certified rowing coach.
Now living in DeLand, Rouse enjoys fishing in his spare time, especially catch-and-release fishing for big game such as tarpon, bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammerheads.
