Eric Reyes begins his second season as goalkeeper coach with the Hatters in 2017.

Reyes joins the Hatters after spending the previous 18 months in a similar role at Barry University in Miami, where he worked with both the men’s and women’s programs.

“Eric brings a slightly different skill set and significant experience both coaching teams and players and working with goalkeepers in high school, club and college to Stetson,” Khettry said. “After seeing a few of his sessions and seeing his attention to detail, the organization and content of his sessions, I have no doubt he will be able to help our goalkeepers continue to improve and move forward.”

In his first season with Stetson, the Hatters recorded five shutouts. Emily Plotz was named second-team All-ASUN and to the ASUN All-Freshman team. Plotz’s 0.96 goals-against average was the lowest by a Hatter in 10 years.

While coaching at Barry, Reyes also served as the head coach of the Miami Lakes Soccer Club U14 girls’ team, while also serving as the assistant coach for Gulliver Schools since 2013. Gulliver Prep won two state championships in four years.

Reyes also owns professional playing experience, having played with Bayamon FC in the Puerto Rico First Division. He also spent time with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL, in addition to representing Puerto Rico in CONCACAF Champions League qualifying.

“Eric has played at a high level collegiately and internationally, representing Puerto Rico’s full team in World Cup and Gold Cup qualifying,” Khettry said. “He is energetic, a very hard worker and ambitious and wants to be a full-time coach and I’m excited to add him to our staff. I have no doubt that Stetson Women’s Soccer just improved with his addition.”

Reyes played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara and Florida International. Prior to college, Reyes was a member of USA U-15, 15 and 17 National Teams before transitioning to play with Puerto Rico.

He recently graduated from FIU with a degree in Recreation & Sport Management, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration at Ohio University.

“I want to thank Coach Khettry for this opportunity to join staff here at Stetson,” Reyes said. “It is a true honor to be part of a fantastic program and a great university with rich tradition. I have to also thank everyone at Barry University, Gulliver Schools, and Miami Lakes for preparing me for this next phase of my career by providing me with the tools and experiences necessary to grow as a person and as a coach. I am thrilled to get started with the team and hopefully add a new dynamic to help our team reach its ultimate goals.”

Reyes holds a “C” license from the United States Soccer Federation.
