Stetson University Athletics

The Stetson Athletics Communications staff serves as the publicity liaison between the constituents of the department's varsity sports and the local, national and international media.

The staff strives to showcase the academic and athletic accomplishments of all Stetson student-athletes while enhancing the Hatter brand and reputation through dynamic story-telling and serving as the public relations branch of the athletic department.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: leading and executing all publicity aspects for Stetson's intercollegiate athletic program, developing campaigns, managing sport-specific social media platforms, navigating strategic and crisis communications, facilitating and overseeing all media interviews, content creation, managing credential requests, award nominations, gameday operations, producing informational and promotional publications, distributing press releases, compiling statistical information and updating GoHatters.com and any other external communications.

The department works collaboratively with all divisions of Stetson's intercollegiate athletics program, particularly in the areas of marketing, fan experience, video services and ticket sales to advance an integrated external platform that reflects positively on the image of the university.
 

Media credentials are issued to working members of recognized news organizations covering Stetson Athletics. Credential requests should be submitted to the Athletics Communications Office no later than 24 hours prior to the event. Approval is based on available space and editorial need. Credentials are non-transferable, remain the property of Stetson Athletics, and may be revoked at any time.
 

All interviews with Stetson student-athletes, coaches and athletics administrators must be coordinated through the Athletics Communications Office. Student-athletes have been instructed not to arrange interviews independently.

Interviews will be scheduled at times that do not interfere with academic responsibilities, team activities or medical treatment. Student-athlete contact information will not be released.

Stetson Athletics practices are generally open to accredited media. Members of the media planning to attend practice are asked to notify the Athletics Communications Office in advance so appropriate arrangements can be made with the coaching staff.

Photography and video may be limited to designated portions of practice at the discretion of the head coach. Interviews with coaches and student-athletes should be arranged through the Athletics Communications Office and will not be conducted during practice unless approved in advance

Credentialed photographers and videographers may work only from designated media areas and must not interfere with competition or game operations. Photography and video are for editorial/news coverage only unless otherwise authorized.  Commercial use, distribution beyond personal use, reproduction for commercial purposes, and the sale or licensing of photographs or video are strictly prohibited without prior written authorization from Stetson Athletics.

Game-action video may not be streamed live or used for commercial purposes without the appropriate rights or written permission. Drone photography or videography is prohibited unless specifically approved by Stetson Athletics and the university.

Freelance Photography
Stetson does not provide event credentials to freelance photographers without a legitimate media coverage purpose.  Stetson's official photographer, Steve Simoneau, covers most home events. He is also available for freelance assignments with advance notice. Stetson Athletics reserves the exclusive right to designate official photographers and videographers for its athletic events and to regulate, restrict or prohibit photography and videography as necessary to protect its broadcast, sponsorship, licensing, marketing, intellectual property, security and other contractual or operational rights.

Credentialed media are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times. Access to locker rooms, training rooms and other restricted team areas is prohibited unless specifically authorized.

Media members may not approach student-athletes, coaches or officials during competition. All postgame interview requests will be coordinated by the Athletics Communications Office following an appropriate cooling-off period. Failure to comply with these policies or instructions from event personnel may result in the loss of credential privileges.

The Stetson Athletics Communications Office is located in the Wilson Athletic Center.  Parking is available on the east end of the building.  Contact an athletic communications representative for building access.

A working credential (“Credential”) is issued by Stetson University Athletics as courtesy to an accredited agency (“The Agency”) for the sole purpose of providing stadium access or venue access to an individual representative of an agency (“The Representative”) who has a legitimate working function
in connection with the event for which the credential is issued (the “Event).
 
The bearer of a Stetson event credential must comply with all institutional, NCAA and applicable athletic conference rules and regulations. Any
unauthorized use of a credential or violation of its terms subjects the Representative to ejection from the event stadium or venue(s)
and revocation of the credential. A credential is non-transferable and may be revoked at any time without cause.
 
A credential authorizes the use by the Agency, solely for the news and editorial coverage of the Event, any descriptions, accounts,
photographs, films, audio and video recordings, or drawings of the Event. Any other use or attempted use by the Representative or the
Agency is expressly prohibited unless the Agency has obtained the advance written permission of Stetson University Athletics for
such other use. The Representative shall not use more than three (3) minutes of video highlights from the Event.
 
Representative assumes all risk of harm while covering this event. The Agency and the Representative agree indemnify and hold
harmless Stetson University and/or the City of DeLand from and against any acts or omissions of the Representative.
 
Acceptance of this credential constitutes agreement by the Representative and the Agency to abide by the forgoing conditions.
 
Field Access/Rules:
• Remain in assigned areas. No access to team locker rooms or sideline/courtside team areas.
• No contact, including verbal, at any time with the game, players or coaches
• No autographs at any time.
• Wear appropriate clothing. No opposing team colors or logos on the Stetson sideline.
• No one under 16 years old is permitted
• No alcohol or food permitted.
• Football endzone access is only for credentials with a working function.
