DeLand, Fla. - Stetson women's basketball head coach Dee Romine recently announced the promotion of assistant coach Tracy Schmidt and the hiring of new assistant Nefertiti Walker.
Schmidt, a native of St. Louis, Mo., has taken over recruiting duties as the second assistant. Schmidt, who helped guide the Hatters to a Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship and their first-ever NCAA Tournament during the 2004-05 season, enters his third year with the program. He will serve as the recruiting coordinator while assisting with guard/post workouts, scheduling and organizing summer camps.
"I am excited to elevate Tracy to our Recruiting Coordinator position," said head coach Dee Romine. "Our program will benefit from his enthusiasm and outstanding work ethic. In just the short time he has been working in this capacity, there has been enormous progress in our recruiting efforts."
A former Hatter standout, Walker (Atlanta, Ga.) joins the staff as an assistant coach. Her responsibilities will include academics, fundraising, scouting and film exchange. She will also assist with recruiting, weight training, conditioning, individual workouts and coaching guards.
"I have had the privilege to work with Nefertiti Walker as a student athlete the past three years and I am extremely happy that she has now joined our staff as an assistant coach," said Romine. "Her energy and her familiarity with our program will be a huge benefit to our current players."
Walker set single season records with 581 points and 80 three-pointers as a senior. A guard from Atlanta, Ga., Walker also racked up 1,061 points and 145 three's in just two years at Stetson. She was a two-time all-conference performer and player of the week.
Stetson opens the 2006-07 season on Saturday, Oct. 28 when it hosts Rollins College in an exhibition game at the Edmunds Center.
