Nashville, Tenn.- Belmont struck first on an easy bucket by star forward Alysha Clark and she would continue to take the reigns for her team, leading the Bruins to a 73-47 victory over the Hatters.
After a Bruins 8-0 run to start the game, the Hatters got their offense going with a three pointer from sophomore Sharnesha Smith (Kingsland, Ga.) and a bucket by Ayesha Barkley ( East Orange, N.J.), bringing Stetson within three, 8-5.
That would be the closest the Hatters would get in the first half and throughout the rest of the game. Behind the strong play of Clark and Shaunda Strayhorn, the Bruins took control of the game early and never looked back.
The stat sheet told the story as the Hatters committed 29 turnovers while the Bruins had only 17. Belmont was able to convert 38 points off Hatter turnovers.
Stetson was led by sophomore Ayesha Barkley with 10 points. Freshman Prue Kenny (Geelong, Australia) and Janene Maclin, each with eight rebounds, led Stetson on the boards.
The Bruins were topped by Clark with a double-double 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Next up the Hatters will stay in Nashville and take on conference foe Lipscomb on Saturday January 13 at 4:00 central time.
