The Stetson men's soccer team defeated conference foe Gardner-Webb 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in Boiling Springs, NC. The win raised the Hatters record to 9-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in A-Sun play.
The Hatters opened the scoring early in the first half with a goal by senior Tanner Wolfe (Hudson, Fla.) in the fifth minute. Wolfe scored with a header to right side of the net off a crisp crossing pass by junior Kirk Labusch (Brandon, Fla.) from the right flank.
In the 21st minute the roles reversed as Wolf set up LaBusch with a through ball that was finished with a delivery into the left side. It was Labusch's 4th goal of the season.
Gardner-Webb scored in the 29th minute and then again late in the game in the 87th minute to tie the game.
After a scoreless first overtime Wolfe came through one more time and netted the golden goal (103:42) when LaBusch sent a cross into the box. The goal was Wolfe's 7th of the year and increased his team-leading point total to 19.
Stetson will continue its Carolina road-trip with a game versus USC Upstate on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Hatters, ranked #9 in the South Region will then return home to finish the season with a pair of non-conference games against Winthrop University and Georgia Southern.
