DeLand, Fla. - Chris Ingoglia improved to 16-2 lifetime at Melching Field and freshman Justin Dechert contributed three innings in a 3-0 shutout over Southern Illinois Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Stetson took the season-opening three-game series from the Salukis and is now 2-1.Â
Ingoglia (1-0) was in control from the start, setting down the side in order in the first. He allowed a single and walk in the second, then retired 10 of the next 11 batters. The senior lefty registered eight strikeouts and allowed just two walks and four singles.Â

Dechert tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday night and came back with three more Sunday afternoon for his first save. The freshman gave up one hit and one walk.Â

The Hatters executed a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Kevin Johnson reached on an error and went to second on Shane Jordan's bunt single. Following a sacrifice Braedyn Pruitt grounded out to first, allowing Johnson to score the go-ahead run.
Â
Stetson gained some breathing room in the sixth. Pruitt reached on SIU's third error of the game and Justin Bass followed with a single. Brian Pruitt then ripped a double over the left fielder's head to bring home Stetson's second run. Bass later scored on a ground out for the 3-0 final score.
