(Buies Creek, N.C.) ? A career-high 25-point effort by sophomore Sharnesha Smith (Kingsland, Ga.) was not enough for Stetson at Campbell. The Camels beat the Hatters 78-60 in a conference match Saturday afternoon at the Carter Gym in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
Smith led the Hatters with a career-high 25 points as well as three assists and four steals. Senior Kim Manning (Daytona Beach, Fla.) helped the defensive effort taking a game high five steals.
With a home court crowd on Senior Day, the Camels came out of the huddle running. Pushing the ball inside and getting the looks they needed from the outside the Camels went into the locker room with a 40-26 lead.
The Hatters had a rough start to the afternoon's match-up, recording three fouls in the first minute of the contest.
Smith led the effort for the Hatters in the first half, with nine points on 4-7 shooting. Freshman Prue Kenny (Geelong, Australia) followed with six points for Stetson in the first half, going 2-2 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe.
The second half belonged to the Camels. Campbell hit tough shots inside and put the Hatters in foul trouble early. Stetson could only come as close as 10 points on a three pointer by Smith with 14:23 remaining in the contest. From there the Camels regained their momentum and with time winding down, took a game-high 22 point lead and eventually won by 18.
Stetson is now 4-21 overall and 4-10 in conference action.
The Hatters will take on the North Florida on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 in the Edmunds Center to begin their last home stand of the season.
