DeLand, Fla. - Stetson used a five-run third inning and a strong eight-inning performance from Chris Ingoglia to take the series rubber game 5-2 over visiting Louisville Sunday afternoon at Melching Field.
Â
The Hatters (8-3) hit six doubles in the game, including four two-baggers during the decisive five-run third.
Â
Ingoglia took over from there, scattering five hits over eight innings before giving way to Robbie Elsemiller in the ninth. Elsemiller then retired the side in order to nail down his third save of the year.
Â
Ingoglia (2-1), who lasted just an inning and two-thirds in his last start, struck out five and did not walk a batter. He retired the 13 of the first 14 batters he faced before surrendering a solo home run to Isiah Howes in the fifth.
Â
The Cardinals (3-4) strung together three more hits in the fifth to plate their second run, but Ingoglia shut the door the rest of the way. He retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced.
Â
Offensive the Hatters were led by Justin Bass who double twice and drove in a run. Braedyn Pruitt also collected a pair of hits while Josh Clendenin hit a two-run double during the Hatters' five-run third.
Â
Louisville starter Justin Marks (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in three innings. Three Cardinal relievers, however, held the Hatters scoreless over the final five innings, surrendering just one infield hit. For the weekend the Louisville bullpen pitched 11.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Stetson has won all three weekend series this year. The Hatters will visit Bethune-Cookman at 6:00 pm Tuesday night.
