DeLand, Fla. - With just less than one minute remaining the Hatters and Lady Bisons have a battle of the three pointers, each team trading the lead down to the last: 10 seconds. In the end two points from the charity strip gave Lipscomb the victory on Thursday evening at the Edmunds Center, 59-57.
The three pointers game pouring down with under one minute to go in the game, starting with junior Jamie Nesbit (Peoria, Ariz.) to put the Hatters up by one. On the other end of the court Dana Carrigan responds with a three pointer of her own to put the Lady Bisons up by two with :46 seconds remaining. Sophomore Sharnesha Smith (Kingsland, Ga.) answered with a three-pointer with :11 seconds remaining to give the Hatters a one point advantage once again. Dana Carrigan tried to respond with yet another shot from beyond the arc, but took the foul instead. Carrigan went 2-3 from the line to put the Lady Bisons up by one.
With one second remaining, a foul by junior Kellie Olson (Tucson, Ariz.) gave the lady Bisons the luck they needed to secure the win. At the line, Jilian Partin went 1-2 to give her team the two point win, 59-57.
The Hatters went into tonight's game ready to take the win on their home court. Striking first on a bucket by Smith, the Hatters took the early lead. Going up by as much as seven with five minutes remaining on a three pointer by Olson, the Hatters took the lead into the locker room 22-19.
The second half was dominated by the Hatters until the Lady Bisons Katie Rollins put it up from beyond the arc and gave Lipscomb its' first lead of the half, 33-30. From there the Hatters and Lady Bisons would trade leads until the final minute when the battle of the three pointers began.
The Hatters were led by the outstanding effort of senior Janene Maclin (Chicago, Ill.), Smith, and Nesbit. Maclin tied her season best with the game-high 18 points on 9-14 from the field. Smith ended the evening with 15 points while Nesbit added 11 points.
The Lady Bisons were led by senior Penny Jones with 16 points and six rebounds. Dana Carrigan put up 15 going 3-5 from beyond the arc.
Next up the Hatters host Belmont on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 in the Edmunds Center.
