Kennesaw, Ga. - Stetson pounded out a season-high 21 hits and out-slugged Kennesaw State 15-10 in the first game of a doubleheader, then took a 3-0 pitcher's duel in the second game Saturday afternoon at Stillwell Stadium. The doubleheader sweep also gave Stetson a three-game series sweep for the first time this year.Â
Â
After a slow start at the plate in the nightcap, Stetson broke through with the game's first run in the sixth inning when Justin Bass singled in Brian Pruitt. Braedyn Pruitt then paired with Brian in the eighth for back-to-back home runs. It was Braedyn's second of the day and seventh of the season. It was the first of the year for Brian.
Â
Jake Hitchcock (2-1) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth, getting cleanup hitter Jace Whitmer to ground into an inning-ending double play, to preserve a scoreless outing. The sophomore had little other trouble in his first start since March 12, turning in Stetson's second complete game shutout of the series. He scattered five hits with no walks and six strikeouts to pick up his first win since February 17 against LSU.
Â
In the first game, every Hatter in the starting lineup had at least one hit on the way to their season-high of 21. Eight different Hatters drove in runs and eight different Hatters scored. Josh Clendenin, playing in his hometown of Atlanta, led the way with three doubles and three RBI.Â
Â
Chris Ingoglia (5-2) pitched around a rough third inning to win his third straight start. Justin Dechert tossed the final three frames for his second save.Â
Â
Stetson's first five hitters of the day scored after a buffet of walks, singles and a 2-RBI double from Josh Clendenin. The Hatters knocked KSU starter Kody Paul (0-2) out of the game after just 1/3 of an inning and the Owls pitching staff recorded just one out the first time through the lineup.Â
Â
Shane Jordan sparked the inning with a leadoff bunt single, the 44th of his career. Braedyn Pruitt drove in the game's first run with a single down the left field line. Brian Pruitt walked with the bases full to knock in another. Clendenin's double to left-center made it 4-0 and Kevin Johnson drove in the fifth run with a long single off the top of the wall in left.Â
Â
The lead ballooned to 10-0 in the third when the Hatters strung together six hits. Casey Frawley led off with a double in his first start since March 10. Jordan and Adam Tindle delivered RBI singles, Brian Pruitt knocked in two runs with a base hit to center and Jeremy Cruz tripled in Pruitt for the Hatters 10th run.
Â
KSU came back in the bottom of the third with a five-run inning. Clint Roques knocked in two runs with a double. Jacob Robbins and Jay Morrow added RBI singles. Thanks to a passed ball and an error in the inning, only one run was earned.
Â
Tindle answered with a single to drive in two more Stetson runs in the fourth. The right-fielder extended his hit streak to 13 games, the longest by a Hatter this year. Frawley's third hit of the day made it 13-6 Stetson in the fifth.Â
Â
The Owls picked up single runs in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings and added two more in the seventh.Â
Â
Braedyn Pruitt iced the game with a rope of a home run down the right field line to lead off the ninth.
Â
Stetson returns to action with a non-conference game Wednesday at Bethune-Cookman.Â
