Dominant Pitching Carries Hatters to DH Sweep

Buies Creek, N.C. - Corey Kluber and Chris Ingoglia both reached career-high strikeout totals as they pitched Stetson to a double-header sweep of Campbell at Taylor Field Friday night.  The Hatters (29-9, 12-2 A-Sun) extended their season-long winning streak to nine games with a 5-4 victory in the first game and a 3-1 win in the nightcap over the Camels (7-30, 2-12 A-Sun).

In the first game, Kluber (8-0) retired his first 11 batters, including six consecutive strikeouts from the second through fourth innings.  The Coppell, Texas right-hander fanned a career-high 12 batters in seven innings, while allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.

Chris Ingoglia (7-2) was even more dominant in his game two start, retiring the first 13 Camels he faced before an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning.  Like Kluber, the lefty reached a career-high strikeout total with 14.  Ingoglia's strikeout effort was the most prolific total by a Hatter pitcher in over 13 years.  He went the distance for his third complete game of the year, allowing only one run on three hits with no walks.

The Hatters took scored all of their runs of the second game in the fifth inning.  Josh Clendenin's double sparked the three-run frame.  Shane Jordan, Braedyn Pruitt, and Justin Bass all came through with RBI singles to give Ingoglia a cushion.

The southpaw set down his first 13 batters on Friday the 13th until Rob Meng punched one into the right field corner.  Brian Pruitt made a dive for the ball but came up empty and also suffered an injury that caused him to leave the game after the play.  Meng was able to race around the bases for the rare inside-the-park home run.

In game one, Robbie Elsemiller pitched the final two innings for his conference-leading 11th save.  The Stetson closer allowed two runs (one earned) but held off the Camels to pick up his first save since March 23.

Casey Frawley stroked three hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs to charge the offense.  Four other Hatters tallied multi-hit afternoons.

Josh Clendenin started Stetson's scoring with a two-out single to center that scored Jeremy Cruz in the second inning.  Cruz reached on his team-leading 13th double of the year.

The lead grew in the third.  Casey Frawley singled in Shane Jordan from second base and Aaron Crittenden doubled in Frawley.  Stetson picked up an unearned in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead.

Campbell struck for a run in the fifth.  Rob Meng reached on an error to begin the inning.  Following two Kluber strikeouts, Mike Causey blooped a double to right that plated Meng, bringing Campbell within 4-1.

Stetson answered in the sixth.  Kevin Johnson reached on a fielder's choice and stole second before scoring on Frawley's third hit of the day.

The Camels then did something against Kluber that had not been done in nearly three weeks ? they scored an earned run.  Meng singled home Hamme who had singled and stolen second to break Kluber's string of 21 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

Campbell scored again in the eighth after Kluber left the game.  Jacob Allen's sacrifice fly brought home Brandon Scott to pull the Camels within 5-3. Their final run came home in the ninth on a first-and-third fielder's choice.

The Hatters knocked out double digit hit totals for the fifth straight game and seventh time in the last eight contests.

Stetson and Campbell conclude the series Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Taylor Field.  The Hatters are in search of their third straight A-Sun series sweep.
