Kluber, Hatters Handcuff Gardner-Webb

DeLand, Fla. - Corey Kluber improved to 7-0 and the Hatters (25-9, 8-2 A-Sun) extended their season-long winning streak to five games with an 11-2 win over Gardner-Webb (13-20, 3-7 A-Sun) Thursday night at Melching Field.  Kluber allowed just two hits in seven innings and Justin Bass scored four times on four hits to spark the Stetson victory.

Kluber continued his impressive 2007 campaign by allowing one unearned run in his seven innings pitched.  He faced no more than four batters in any inning and it was the sixth time in nine starts the right-hander went at least six innings.

He received plenty of help from his offense.  Bass and Jeremy Cruz each tallied four hits.  Cruz belted his second home run of the year and drove in four runs.  Bass added three RBI to his four runs scored.  The bottom four hitters in the order combined for 13 hits.

Stetson struck first in the second inning.  Justin Bass led off with a single and scored on Jeremy Cruz's hit-and-run double to the right-center field gap.  One out later Kevin Johnson tripled in Cruz for a 2-0 lead.

Braedyn Pruitt led off the third inning with his team-best and career-high eighth home run of the season.  Josh Clendenin's two-out single brought home Bass to put the Hatters on top by a 4-1 score.

The Bulldogs scored in the third when Jonathan Ahearn walked, went to second on a balk, and to third on a wild pickoff throw.  Shea Harris's suicide squeeze brought in Ahearn for one of the two Gardner-Webb runs.  The Bulldogs also scored on a two-out double in the ninth.

Stetson doubled their run total in the fourth.  A walk, a hit batter, two errors, and a Justin Bass bases-loaded triple put Stetson ahead 8-1.  Cruz singled in two runs in the sixth and launched his homer in the eighth to cap Stetson's scoring.

Drew Jackson added a scoreless relief inning for the Hatters.  Braedyn Pruitt knocked out two hits and scored three times before leaving the game after the seventh inning.  Kevin Johnson also delivered a multi-hit effort.  Thursday was the 20th time this year Stetson registered double digits in the hit column.

The Hatters continue the series against Gardner-Webb Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch at Melching Field.
