DeLand, Fla. - Stetson fell behind early but came back to beat Belmont 4-2 and snap a season-long three-game losing streak Friday night. Senior Chris Ingoglia improved to 20-4 lifetime at Melching Field and notched his 30th career win overall in lifting the Hatters (39-16, 21-5 A-Sun) past the Bruins (30-24, 15-11 A-Sun). Â
Ingoglia (9-4) left with one out in the eighth to a standing ovation. The southpaw struck out 10, the second highest single game total in his four-year Stetson career, while allowing six hits and two walks. Those 10 K's give Ingoglia a career total of269, the fourth-highest mark in Hatter history. His 30 victories also rank fourth.Â
Â
Stetson took the lead in the sixth with a three-run inning. The Hatters had scored a total of three runs in their previous three games. Shane Jordan sparked the rally with a one-out walk and a stolen base. Casey Frawley singled in Jordan and Justin Bass brought home Frawley with a booming double in the gap to tie the score. Bass scored the lead run on Adam Tindle's two-out single.Â
Â
Josh Clendenin led off the seventh with a double and later scored on a Frawley ground out to make it 4-2.
Â
Belmont quickly went on top of the Hatters in the first inning. Matt Reynolds' ground-rule double started off the game and he eventually came in on a ground out. The Bruins' lead doubled in the fourth when Ben Petsch singled in Wiley Tucker. Petsch was in scoring position with no outs but Ingoglia pitched out of trouble.Â
Â
After that, Ingoglia set down nine in a row before pitching around a leadoff walk in the seventh. Robbie Elsemiller closed out the victory for Stetson to post his 12th save, which ties for the fourth-highest single season total in school history. His one and two-thirds scoreless innings gave him his first save since April 13.Â
Â
Bruins starter Carlo Testa (3-7) took the loss after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings.Â
Â
Jordan continued to close in on Stetson's hit record with two more base hits. That gives him a career total of 328, which is 12 shy of matching the record set by Ned French in 1999. Tindle also contributed a multi-hit game for the Hatters.Â
Â
The series and the regular season concludes Saturday afternoon with a 12:00 noon start at Melching Field. Stetson's seniors will be honored prior to the game.Â
