Stetson tried to make the game interesting with one out in the bottom of the 9th when Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.) blasted his 6th home run of the season over the right field wall. Justin Bass (DeLand, Fla.), Brian Pruitt (Miami, Fla.), and Josh Clendenin (Atlanta, Ga.) followed with back-to-back-to-back singles. Clendenin's hit drove in Bass for the Hatters' third run of the game.
Stetson's defensive woes continued as they committed three errors and allowed four unearned runs in the game.
Stetson scored first with one run in the first inning. Crittenden led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then scored when Bass lined a sharp single to right field for his 15th RBI of the season.
Campbell balanced the scoreboard in the top of the 4th when Ryan Hamme (Wilmington, NC) singled, stole second, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a wild pitch by Stetson starter Robby Donovan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.).
Campbell added six runs over the next three innings and then two more in the top of the 9th.
Bass led Stetson offensively going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Crittenden was 1-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Stetson dropped to 9-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play while Campbell improved to 7-11 and 5-5. The two teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Melching Field.
