Box Score Jacksonville, Fla. ? Stetson's offense exploded for 18 hits and four home runs Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, but the pitching staff could not keep the Ospreys grounded. North Florida out-slugged the Hatters with 23 hits of their own and defeated the Hatters 17-10 in Game 2 of their A-Sun series. Overall it was Stetson's 7th consecutive loss on the season.
Stetson struck early with three runs in the top of the 1st inning. With one out Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.) singled between the third baseman and the shortstop. Justin Bass (DeLand, Fla.) came up next and doubled to right field sending Frawley to third. Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.) stepped in and delivered a 2-RBI single through the right side of the infield and the Hatters had a 2-0 lead. Crittenden advanced to third base on a single by Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and scored an unearned run on a passed ball.
Stetson added a run in the top of the 3rd after Crittenden hit a single, moved to second on a balk, and scored when Frank Florio singled to right field.
UNF scored two runs in each of the first three innings and led 6-4 heading into the 4th.
The Hatters tied the score in the top half of the 4th when Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) led off with a walk and then Frawley hit a home run that just cleared the right field wall. Bass followed with a double to center field but was stranded when the inning ended at 6-6.
Stetson added another run in the 5th inning when Josh Clendenin blasted a two-out, solo home run high off the scoreboard in left field. It was his second homer of the season and the Hatters led 7-6.
The lead was short lived as the Ospreys scored a single run in the bottom half of the 5th.
Frawley led off the 6th with a double that just cleared the outstretched glove of the second baseman and rolled deep into right center. Bass then stepped in an launched a fastball deep over the center field wall for his 4th hit of the game and his 9th round tripper of the season.
After falling behind by two runs UNF answered with five runs in the bottom of the 6th, two in the 7th and three in the 8th.
The final Stetson run of the game came on a two-out solo home run by Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) in the 9th inning. It was the first home run of his college career.
Frawley led the Hatters offensively with a 4-for-4 afternoon. He had a home run, a double and 2 RBI. Bass was 4-for-5 with a home run and three doubles. Crittenden was 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Jake Hitchcock (Alachua, Fla.) took the loss for Stetson and is now 2-6 on the season.
