Box Score Daytona Beach, Fla. ? Stetson starting pitcher Will Dorsey (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) had an outstanding outing and Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.) led the offensive charge with three hits and the game-winning RBI to send the Hatters home with a 6-2 extra-inning win over Bethune-Cookman Tuesday night in Daytona Beach.
In 6 2/3 innings of work Dorsey allowed just one unearned run, four hits and struck out five batters. Frawley was 3-for 5 on the night with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Stetson scored first with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Josh Davis (Chambersburg, Pa.) led off with a walk and moved to second on a single through the left side by Erich Holland (Louisville, Ky.). With one out in the inning Frawley smashed a single through the left side of the infield driving in Davis from second base. Holland moved to third base on the play and then ended up scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0 Hatters.
Bethune-Cookman put up an unearned run in the top of the 6th inning. Jose Lozada (Las Piedras, P.R.) reached on an error by the left fielder Frank Florio (Long Valley, NJ). It was a questionable call by the home plate umpire as the ball appeared to be in foul ground when it was touched. Aaron Patterson (Gray, Ga.) entered as a pinch runner and promptly stole second base. He then scored from second base when Davis made an errant throw to first base. It was a throw that sailed wide into the Stetson dugout for a two-base error.
The Wildcats tied the score with a single run in the bottom of 8th off of closer Robbie Elsemiller (Okeechobee, Fla.). Stetson left the bases loaded in the 7th, 8th and 10th innings opening the door for BCU, but Elsemiller would not let them get any closer and gave his team the chance to win the game.
The Hatters took advantage of that chance by scoring four runs in the top of the 11th inning. Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) drew a one-out walk and scored on a rocket double down the left field line by Frawley to give Stetson a 3-2 lead. A hot hitter of late, Frawley is hitting an impressive .611 over the last four games. Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) was next up and was intentionally walked. Matt Sorrell (Ormond Beach, Fla.) stepped in as a pinch hitter and drew a walk to load the bases. Frawley scored on a wild pitch, and Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) reached base on an infield single knocking in Crews. Sorrell ended up scoring the final run on a balk and Stetson had built up a 6-2 lead. It was a lead that would stand up as the final score.
Elsemiller pitched 4.0 innings of relief striking out four batters. Although he allowed the tying run and lost his save opportunity, he held on and picked up the win to run his record to 2-2 on the season.
Stetson is now 17-24 overall while BCU dropped to 25-16. The Hatters will return to the road tomorrow night when they take on USF in Tampa at 7:00 p.m. Hatters fans can hear all the action on Hatter Vision audio with play-by-play provided by the voice of Stetson baseball Bill Topping.
