DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's basketball team (7-12, 4-6 Atlantic Sun) was held to its lowest point total of the season in a 66-43 loss to visiting Jacksonville (11-8, 7-3 A-Sun) Saturday evening at the Edmunds Center. Sophomore guard Tierra Brown (Orlando, Fla.) scored 15 points in her return to the lineup after playing just three total minutes in Stetson's last five games due to a knee injury. The Hatters have lost three straight and five of their last six games.
The Hatters fell behind 10-0 in the opening minutes and never caught up to the Dolphins; the score was 36-18 and Stetson never got closer than 12 points in the second half.
Brown shot 7-12 from the floor, grabbed three rebounds, handed out three assists and blocked a shot for Stetson, which also got 13 rebounds from sophomore center Jessica Conner (Cocoa, Fla.). Senior forward Shayna Swinson (Atlanta, Ga.) got the start today in her 100th career game for the Hatters. Junior forward Ashli Jackson (Opelika, Ala.) was second on the team in scoring with nine points.
DaVina Hamilton led the way for Jacksonville with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. 20 of her points came in the first half as JU put the game out of reach early. Virginia Gregoire added nine points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Jacksonville outscored Stetson 11-0 in second chance points, 10-0 on fast break points and 26-9 off turnovers.
