DeLand, Fla. - Griffin Gilstrap (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and Kevin Munz (Jupiter, Fla.) each scored a pair of goals to lead Stetson (8-1-1, 2-1-0) to a 5-1 win over visiting Lipscomb (3-7-2, 0-2-1). Ryan Asare-Bediako (Tampa, Fla.) scored the other goal for the Hatters while the Bisons' lone goal came on a penalty kick by Tyler Burkhardt (Harisburg, Pa.) with 6:11 remaining in the game.
Gilstrap got the scoring party started 15:23 into the game. Ryan Corning (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) sent Fredrik Brustad (Oslo, Norway) on one of his pattened charges down the right flank. Brustad crossed the ball into the box to Gilstrap who drilled a right footer from 15 yards out.
With halftime closing in Asare-Bediako scored his second goal of the season from Kai Eckenrode (Springfield, Va.) who tallied the first point of his college career with the assist. Eckenrode picked up the ball near the top of the box and dribbled his way through the middle before finding Asare-Bediako 15 yards out on the right side for a ripped a shot lower right.
After the break the Hatters featured Munz in their offensive barrage with two goals in less than two minutes. In the 47th minute Dan Sackman (Hampshire, England) placed a perfect cross from deep in the left side of the box. Out of nowhere Munz soared through the air and headed the ball to the lower right and past Bisons keeper Patrick Walsh (Laguna Hills, Ca.).
At 49:11 Munz struck again with an assist from Robert Hodge (Devon, England). A Hodge header deflected off Walsh and directly to Munz who delivered from 10 yards to center. It was his second goal of the night and third of the season.
Stetson's final goal came at 52:50 when Gilstrap took a feed from Gonzalo de Mujica (Weston, Fla.) and placed a one-timer past the keeper for his second goal. With two goals on the night Gilstrap added to his conference-leading totals of eight goals and 17 points.
"Munzy and Griffin did their things tonight", said Stetson Head Coach T. Logan Fleck. "The best part was how they brought some other players like Fredrik, Ryan and Gonzo into the game."
Hodge was back in the lineup tonight after sitting out last week's loss to UNF with an ankle injury.
"Defensively we were in good shape all night. We made sure that the shots they took would be from outside and from a distance", said Fleck. "Having Hodgy back tonight with his organization and vocal leadership was invaluable."
Although the Hatters dominated on the scoreboard and won by four goals, the teams ended up tied in shots with 24 each. Stetson goalkeeper Logan Potter (Merritt Island, Fla.) was on his game all night. He set a personal mark with a career-high 13 saves against the Bisons and preseason Conference Player of the Year Miguel DaSilva (Tulsa, OK).
Next up for Stetson on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. will be Belmont who tonight dropped a 4-0 decision to FGCU in Fort Myers.
"We want to make sure we come out Sunday and play with the same intensity as tonight. Maintain the same level of play", added Fleck.
