DeLand, Fla. ? Early mistakes including two errors in the first inning proved costly for Stetson (0-4) and led to its fourth consecutive loss to Boston College (4-0) to open the 2009 season. It was the first time the Hatters have lost the first four games of the season since 1979.

Jeremy Cruz (Miami, Fla.) had two hits on the afternoon, Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) tallied two hits and an RBI, and Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.) knocked in Stetson's other run in the 7-2 loss to the Eagles.

After giving up four runs in the top of the first Stetson scored its two runs in the bottom of the inning. With one out Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.) walked and advanced to third on a single through the right side of the infield by Cruz. Frawley scored Stetson's first run on a sacrifice fly by Crittenden. Crews followed with a single that plated Cruz from second and the Hatters had cut the BC lead in half.

Stetson starting pitcher Jake Hitchcock (Alachua, Fla.) had a solid outing giving the team six full innings from the mound. He struck out two batters and walked one. Hitchcock was the victim of some poor early-season defense by the Hatters. He allowed five runs, yet three of them were unearned.

Freshman Lindsay Caughel (Orlando, Fla.) took the mound in the seventh and allowed two runs on three hits. Ian Thompson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Blake Marsocci (Okeechobbee, Fla.) each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game.

Freshmen Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Alex Hudak (Sorrento, Fla.), along with sophomore Jeff Simpson, each had a hit for the Hatters.

Stetson will look to rebound when it hits the road Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. game against Bethuine-Cookman in Daytona Beach's Jackie Robinson Stadium.
