Frawley Grand Slam Leads Hatters to Win over Dolphins

Jacksonville, Fla.- Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.) blasted a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead Stetson (5-11, 1-0) to a 9-6 win over Jacksonville (8-6, 2-2) in the Hatters' first conference game of the season.

 

Starting pitcher Robby Donovan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) threw 5 1/3 innings giving up four runs, striking out four batters and raising his record to 2-0 on the season. David Burns (Seminole, Fla.) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.

 

Stetson had four players with three hits on the night. Frawley was 3-for-5, Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI, Jeremy Cruz (Miami, Fla.) was 3-for-5, and Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

 

Stetson marked the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second inning. Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla.) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single to right center by fellow freshman Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.).

 

After the Dolphins evened the score in the bottom of the second the Hatters answered with a pair in the top of the third. Emory led off with a double deep to right center and was moved to third on an Alex Hudak (Sorrento, Fla.) ground ball to the right side. Frawley followed with and RBI single through the left side of the infield and then moved to second on an infield single by Cruz. With two out Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.) delivered a single through the right side to plate Frawley.

 

After the grand slam and four runs in the fourth inning, JU responded with one in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to get to within two at 7-5.

 

Stetson boosted its lead to 9-5 in the eighth inning after Frank Florio (Long Valley, NJ) and Jones led off with back-to-back singles and then scored on a single to right field by Emory.

 

JU added a final run in the bottom of the eighth for the 9-6 final.

 

The Hatters and Dolphins will return to Sessions Stadium Saturday and Sunday for 1:00 p.m. games. Stetson fans can hear all the games on Hatter Vision found at www.gohatters.com. The voice of Hatters baseball Bill Topping will call the action.

 

After another game at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday (3/17), Stetson will be back home next week for a single game against Indiana on Wednesday, March 18. Tickets for all Stetson home games can be purchased on line at gohatters.com or at the gate on game day.
