Crittenden Led Comeback Falls Short in Nashville

Box Score

Nashville, Tenn. - Designated hitter Aaron Crittenden lived up to his position Saturday in Stetson's 7-6 road loss to Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb University in the second game of the series. The Fort Myers, Florida native was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Freshman Ryan Sweat (DeBary, Fla.) surrendered six runs on 10 hits and struck out three batters, yet was not involved in the decision. Robbie Powell (Punta Gorda, Fla.) took the loss after giving up one run in three innings of relief. He dropped to 1-2 on the season. Stetson fell to 8-14 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Lipscomb boosted its season record to 10-10, 7-1.

After falling behind by three runs in the first two innings the Hatters stormed back with five runs in the top of the third. With one out Jacob deGrom (DeLeon Springs, Fla.) reached on an error. After a walk to Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) and an infield hit by Frawley the bases were loaded for Jeremy Cruz (Miami, Fla.). Cruz singled to left plating deGrom. Crittenden followed with a two-RBI single and then Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) delivered a two-RBI double to put the Hatters up 5-3.

The Bisons took a 6-5 lead with a single run in the fourth and a pair in the fifth. In the top of the sixth Crittenden evened the score at six with a dramatic leadoff blast over the right field fence. It was his second round tripper of the season.

After a scoreless seventh Lipscomb scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a solo home run off Powell. It was a tough break for the freshman who had pitched so well in relief.

Stetson will take on Lipscomb Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (eastern time) in the series finale. After another road game at USF on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., the Hatters will return home to host Kennesaw State next Friday and Saturday. Stetson fans can hear all the games on Hatter Vision found at www.gohatters.com. The voice of Hatters baseball Bill Topping will call the action.
